Orig. pub. Richmond 1927-29. Reprinted 1973. Print on Demand Edition 2021. The set of 3 vols., 1500+ pp. Item #180

This three-volume reference work of over 1500 pages is based on official government records on file in the Virginia Land Office and on documents in the Archives Department of the Virginia State Library. The records abstracted include bounty warrants, military certificates, exchange warrants, and land vouchers and they can be used to provide proof of Revolutionary Service and to trace descent of bounty land. Research in these records enables the following of the migration of a family and aids in the determinaton of succession of sons and daughters, grandsons, and granddaughters. These certificates reveal genealogical data of unequalled strength and authenticity, indicating particulars of rank, regiment, and service. Exchange warrants contain the names of all heirs at law, executors, dates, and places, and as such, indicate proof of relationship. The material presented in these volumes is presented in the form of abstracts and arranged in a series of articles, some running several pages. The several thousand names mentioned in the articles can be searched in the complete indexes to the set. These volumes are regarded as a major source for Virginia genealogical research.
